So you have a new little friend living with you and it could get overwhelming at times.
With a dog in your home you are faced with many challenges when it comes to keeping a nice clean home, and using pet safe cleaning options. It’s a big deal, whether the pee and poop stains, the ticks and fleas, furniture bitten by your pooch, or even that smell of a wet dog that seems to stick around your house! In the quest of cleaning, you feel like you’re fighting in so many battles. As a dog parent, it took me some time to figure out how to deal with that. Eventually you learn how to take the necessary pet safe preventive actions to keep a clean home. Vinegar will become your second best friend!
1- Vinegar cleans and destroys pee and poop stains and odors, as it neutralizes them completely.
Always have a handy spray bottle filled with half vinegar and half water. I also recommend adding a little bit of scented dish washing soap to it. My favorite is lemon or orange dish soap. When you have a pee or poop stain around the house, remove it first with paper towels..then use your prepared bottle to spray the affected area generously. Leave for a couple of minutes.. Then clean off well with a wet towel. Spray again the affected area and let it dry. Don’t worry about the smell of vinegar it will go away within a few minutes.
2- Vinegar repels ticks and fleas from your home. Use the same mix and spray your rugs, curtains and corners around your home daily. I also keep one in my car to spray the mats every now and then. The smell of vinegar will repel ticks and fleas, and the dish soap kills them. This is a safe way to keep them out.
3- Vinegar keeps your dog’s coat fresh and will keep away ticks and fleas. Rub a little diluted vinegar on your dog’s coat, before you leave the house every time, especially in the hot summer. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. It will keep ticks and fleas away and will leave your dog’s coat soft and shiny.
4- Vinegar freshens your home and keeps away that wet dog smell. Mop your home floors with about a cup of vinegar added to your bucket of water, keeping a window open for about half an hour. Vinegar freshens up those doggie odors around the house and will repel insects. Do this at least twice a week.
5- Apple cider vinegar helps with immunity and skin problems. Feed your dog 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to help with skin itching and rashes. You can add it to their food or water. It also boosts the immune system, lowers cholesterol and detoxifies the kidneys.
6- Vinegar keeps your dog from biting on furniture. Most of them hate it! Spray vinegar on your furniture to keep your dog from biting on it. They tend to do that while they are teething or when bored. So you need to train them not to do that and keep them away from the furniture.
Did you know! To sooth the gums of your teething puppy, soak a small clean towel with water, freeze it, then give it to them to bite on
