Growing old with our pups is one of the most beautiful things that can happen. Seeing them growing tall and getting into shape is just pure happiness. To us, dog parents, our dogs’ birthdays are just as special as any of our birthdays, and thus they need to be celebrated! But what kind of a birthday would it be without  presents or let alone a birthday cake? Yes you read that right! A birthday cake. I am sure that you are thinking that dogs don’t eat cake and that would just ruin their health. But wait and see these two birthday cakes are made specially to suit your dog and if eaten once a year it won’t do any harm don’t worry. Read below to know the recipes for dog birthday cake.

Sweet tooth birthday cake

Ingredients

  • One egg
  • ¼ cup oil
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 1ts vanilla extract
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or white flour)
  • 1ts baking soda
  • 1/3 cup honey (optional)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of water

Directions

  • Combine dry ingredients together
  • In a separate bowl combine the water, egg, oil, peanut butter, vanilla and honey then add the carrots.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the carrots mixture
  • Note: if you find the mixture too stiff, add 2 tbsps of water at a time and mix them in till you get the desired consistency of cake batter. If you feel the mixture is too wet, add in 2 tbsps of flour at a time and mix them in till you get the desired consistency of cake batter.
  • Place batter in a slightly greased pan and put it in the oven for about 40 mins on 180 degrees, or test readiness by inserting a clean tooth pick after 30 mins of baking. If it comes out clean then it’s ready.
  • You can add peanut butter layer as a frosting. Frost after cooling.

Savory birthday cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (whole wheat or white)
  • 1 cup shredded and cooked chicken (you can add cooked liver too)
  • 1ts baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup carrots (optional)
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions:

  • Combine dry ingredients
  • Combine wet ingredients (eggs one at a time)
  • Add the chicken and carrots to the wet ingredients
  • Combine the wet and dry together.
  • Note: if you find the mixture too stiff, add 2 tbsps of water at a time and mix them in till you get the desired consistency of cake batter. If you feel the mixture is too wet, add in 2 tbsps of flour at a time and mix them in till you get the desired consistency of cake batter.
  • Put in oven for about 30 mins on 180 degrees, or test readiness by inserting a clean tooth pick after 30 mins of baking. If it comes out clean then it’s ready.
  • You can add a layer of yogurt or cream cheese as a frosting. Frost after cooling.

Remember that yes cakes are not really healthy so it is essential to only feed your dogs those kind of treats only occasionally, in small quantities.
